Our top priority
We believe that every patient in every community deserves the best healthcare America can offer. Your MLKCH is more than your community hospital—we’re your award-winning community hospital.
Our Hall of Fame CEO
Dr. Elaine Batchlor, CEO of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, has earned accolades from her peers in recognition of her decades of dedicated work improving the quality of care for South Los Angeles.
Dr. Batchlor was acknowledged in 2018 by Becker’s Hospital Review, the preeminent publication for the hospital industry, on its list of “27 female physician executives to know in honor of National Women Physicians Day.” In 2015, Becker’s included Dr. Batchlor as one of the top "100 Physician Leaders of Hospitals and Health Systems" in the country and "500+ People to Know in Healthcare." Since 2012, Becker's has included her as one of “130 Women Leaders to Know.”
In November 2017, the Association of Black Women Physicians (ABWP) honored Dr. Batchlor with the Humanitarian of the Year Award. In June 2017, the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health awarded her the Dr. Lester Breslow Lifetime Achievement Award and inducted her into the Alumni Hall of Fame.
On The Maternity Honor Roll
Our hospital was included on the 2020 Hospital C-Section Honor Roll—a list of 141 hospitals in California that "have met or surpassed a federal target aimed at reducing Cesarean births (C-sections) for first-time mothers with low-risk pregnancies."
Most Wired Hospital
In 2018, we were awarded HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 for our electronic medical records system. At the end of 2017, only 6.4% of hospitals in the U.S. had reached Stage 7.
In 2017, MLKCH was one of only three hospitals in Los Angeles—along with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and Cedars-Sinai—to receive the 2017 Health Care’s Most Wired® award, an honor bestowed by the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Health Forum.
In 2016, we achieved HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 for electronic medical records. No other hospital has ever achieved this level of tech savvy integration in its first year of operation.

MLKCH has received The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval™, a recognized symbol of healthcare quality. This accreditation means that we demonstrate an ongoing commitment to monitoring and improving quality and patient safety.
